BNP won’t let election happen without caretaker system: Khaleda

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at Narsingdi rally said they won’t let the election happen without caretaker government.

She arrived at the venue at Narsinghdi Sadar upazila's Balurmath around 5pm.

She claimed 90% of the population want the caretaker system, further alleging the government blocked the path of dialogue although BNP kept it open.

She also claimed the government wants to control the elections by abusing the majority and bypassing the court verdict.

Khlaeda, accompanied by senior party leaders, started from her Gulshan residence at around 1:30pm on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Dhaka-Sylhet Highway saw a huge tailback as the motorcade of BNP chief Khaleda Zia headed towards the rally place in Narshingdi.

Our reporter, who is following the motorcade, said: “People are waving hands, standing in a long row beside the road to cheer the leader.”

At the same time, activists from different processions marched towards the rally venue.

This is the first out of the eight scheduled 18-party alliance rallies to be held throughout Bangladesh in a bid to mount public support for the opposition’s cause.

BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the rally schedules at an August 19 press conference.
