BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said the use of bullets to suppress movements or any political program must be stopped permanently.
“Sheikh Hasina used the police and shotguns to kill people in this country, and this must never happen again,” he said on Monday after placing a wreath at the grave of BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman, accompanied by leaders of the Munshiganj district BNP.
Rizvi strongly criticized ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and accused her of being desperate to reinstate her "barbaric rule" in Bangladesh.
“We must ensure free, fair elections and the rule of law in the country. Such barbaric rule, like that of Sheikh Hasina, should never be brought back to this country,” he said.
“She (Hasina) is taking shelter in a neighbouring country and hatching conspiracies. Unable to get people’s support, she has announced hartal and blockade programs virtually,” Rizvi said.
"Where are your Chhatra League, Jubo League, and terrorist groups—those who gunned down people like birds, killed children, and murdered BNP leaders and activists? The people of Bangladesh will no longer tolerate you; they demand justice for all your wrongdoings," he added.
"Reforms must be implemented to ensure that no one can ever take away people's rights or suppress freedom of expression."
“We have some advisers who become irritated when the government is criticized and make various remarks. If they cannot tolerate criticism, they should resign from their advisory roles and form a political party. If the price of rice rises today, should we not speak out? Should we remain silent about the deterioration of law and order? Should we ignore the soaring prices of essential commodities?" Rizvi asked.
"The market syndicate remains active, and I see no genuine effort from the government to curb it. Law and order are not improving—incidents of theft, robbery, and murder are on the rise," the BNP leader added.
