BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has left her Gulshan residence and is on her way to address a public rally in Narsinghdi.
Khlaeda, accompanied by senior party leaders, left her residence around 1:30pm on Sunday.
The rally is expected to take place at Narsinghdi Sadar upazila's Balurmath in the afternoon.
Khaleda is expected to campaign for the opposition demand to reinstate the caretaker provision in the constitution ahead of the upcoming general elections.
Meanwhile, Dhaka-Sylhet Highway sees a huge tailback as the motorcade of BNP chief Khaleda Zia heads towards the rally place in Narshingdi.
Our reporter, who is following the motorcade said: “People are waving hands, standing in a long row beside the road to welcome the leader.”
On the other hand, activists from different processions are proceeding towards the rally venue.
This is the first out of the eight scheduled 18-party alliance rallies to be held throughout Bangladesh in a bid to mount public support for the opposition’s cause.
BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the rally schedules at an August 19 press conference.
