ASM Abdur Rab, President of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), said that to label Jamaat-e-Islami as a patriotic force is nothing but a cruel irony of history.
In a statement sent to the media on Friday, Rab said: "Opposing the Liberation War and being involved in the killing of the nation's citizens is not a demonstration of patriotism. Such remarks are disrespectful to the freedom-loving people."
ASM Rab added: "The politics of denying the bravery and struggles of others while proclaiming one's own superiority has been witnessed by the nation for the past 15 years. After declaring one nation, one leader, one country - unstoppable, we saw the consequences of it."
He also urged all parties to be cautious of the tendency to appropriate the unprecedented change brought about by the students' uprising, urging everyone to remain vigilant.
