12-party alliance meets with BNP: Leaders stress unity; no decision on future programs yet

Leaders of the BNP and the 12-party alliance have said they are yet to take any decisions on future programs, and that it is integral to stay united amid the ongoing political challenges.

BNP leaders held a meeting with the 12-party alliance to discuss the country's ongoing political situation at the BNP chairperson's political office in Gulshan, Dhaka on Saturday.

After the meeting, BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan said that the current political situation and contemporary issues of the country were discussed. "If any decision is made, we will inform you later," he added.

He also mentioned that the 12-party alliance and the BNP have collaborated in the fight against fascism, noting that the need for such unity has not yet diminished.

Mustafa Jamal Haider, head of the 12-party alliance and chairman of a faction of the Jatiya Party (Kazi Zafar), said discussions focused on potential programs and strategies for addressing the current political situation, similar to past approaches.

However, he clarified that no decisions were made during the meeting regarding the political programs to be undertaken in the coming days. 

Mostafa Jamal Haider further remarked that the commitment to unity in the anti-fascist movement remains essential.

Following this meeting, the BNP's liaison committee will meet with the Like-Minded Alliance and the Labor Party.

A BNP Standing Committee member noted that these discussions will cover the country’s latest political developments and seek input from alliance partners on the upcoming elections, the government’s reform initiatives, and the Chief Adviser’s probable election roadmap.

The meeting was chaired by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, accompanied by party Standing Committee members Nazrul Islam Khan and Selima Rahman, as well as BNP Vice Chairman Abdul Awal Mintoo.

The 12-party alliance was represented by Mostafa Jamal Haider, chairman of a faction of the Jatiya Party (Kazi Zafar); Nurul Amin Bepari, Bikalpa Dhara Presidium member and Dhaka University teacher; Shamsuddin Parvez, Kalyan Party chairman; Lion Md. Faruk Rahman, Bangladesh Labor Party chairman; Advocate Syed Ehsanul Huda, 12-Party Alliance coordinator; Shahadat Hossain Selim, Bangladesh LDP Secretary General; Mufti Golam Mohiuddin Ikram, Secretary General of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Bangladesh; Prof Abdul Karim of Islami Oikya Jote; Abul Kashem, Secretary General of Bangladesh Islamic Party; and Rashed Pradhan, JAGPA President.
