AB Party to hold national council on December 28

Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party) Joint General Secretary Barrister Zubair Ahmed Bhuiyan has announced that the party's first National Council Conference is set to be held on December 28 at Suhrawardy Udyan.

He also announced some key decisions, including the dates for the party’s Chairman election, Council session and National Executive Council elections were also declared, at a press conference on Sunday.

Mujibur Rahman Manju shared that the AB Party had started its journey during the difficult period of the pandemic and despite several attempts to hold a council meeting, the oppressive government’s persecution and participation in the anti-autocracy movement had hindered their efforts.

He said: “After overcoming the challenges, our party has now decided to hold its first National Council.”

Advisor AFM Solaiman Chowdhury said: “Due to the authoritarian government's actions, the party was unable to hold a council earlier. Now, after the fall of the autocratic regime, the party is determined to conduct the council in a transparent and fair manner. We are aiming to establish capable leadership in an environment of free and fair elections.”

In response to questions from the press, AB Party Convener Professor Major Dr Abdul Wahab Minar (retd) said: “The AB Party has always been committed to the political struggle for the establishment of people's rights.”

He extended greetings to the nation on the occasion of the National Council announcement and requested cooperation from all citizens to advance the party’s activities.

Barrister Zubair declared the election schedule for the Chairman position, which includes nomination submission from December 7 to 12, verification of nominations on December 13, withdrawal of candidacies by December 18, publication of the final list of candidates on December 19, voting on December 24-25 and result announcement on December 28.

The election schedule for the National Executive Council was also announced, which includes nomination submission from December 5 to 10, verification of nominations on December 11-12, withdrawal of candidacies on December 13, final candidate list publication on December 14, voting on December 19-20 and result declaration on December 21.

For the general secretary election, Barrister Zubair stated that nominations would be accepted from December 22, with candidate withdrawal on December 24, voting on December 26 and results announced on December 28.

Joint Convener Lt Colonel Didarul Alam (Rtd), Lt Colonel Helal Uddin (Rtd) and several other leaders attended the event.

The press conference was attended by other party members, including Senior Assistant Secretary ABM Khalid Hasan, Conveners and Secretaries from various regional offices such as Altaf Hossain (North City), Amjad Khan (Gazipur), Anwar Farooq (South City) and several others.
