Nur withdraws statement regarding ICT Chief Prosecutor Tajul

Nurul Haque Nur, the president of Gono Odhikar Parishad, has withdrawn his statement demanding the resignation of Mohammad Tajul Islam, the Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal.

A press release from the chief prosecutor’s office on Friday confirmed that discussions took place between Nurul Haque Nur and the chief prosecutor’s office.

Nur has retracted his statement made in front of the tribunal and assured full cooperation with the International Crimes Tribunal’s activities as a political party.

Meanwhile, in a Facebook post, Nurul Haque Nur said: "I retract my statement made on Thursday, which caused an unintended situation due to misinformation regarding Chief Prosecutor Advocate Tajul Islam."

"After clarifying the matter in discussions with the chief prosecutor, we will continue our support for the Tribunal's work to ensure justice for the genocide," he added.

A press release sent by Masud Rana, the administrative officer of the International Crimes Tribunal, on Friday night, said that legal action would be taken against Nurul Haque Nur if he did not withdraw his statement and apologize regarding Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam.
