The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested ex-minister of housing and public works RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury in the Mirpur area of Dhaka on Thursday night.
Additional Police Commissioner (DB) Rezaul Karim Mallik confirmed the arrest.
Obaidul Muktadir is a former member of parliament for Brahmanbaria-3 and president of the Brahmanbaria district unit of the Awami League.
On August 23, 2021, a murder case was filed against Muktadir and 25 leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations following the death of a madrasa student during clashes between the party's members and supporters of Hefazat-e-Islam in Brahmanbaria.
Additionally, on August 27, 2021, another case was filed in Brahmanbaria accusing Muktadir, along with 167 Awami League and affiliate body leaders and activists, of attacking the motorcade of BNP leader Khaled Hossain Mahbub on December 16, 2018.
Since the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, many former ministers and MPs have been arrested in various cases.
