Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur has said that, unlike in the past under the Awami League, no political party can now casually converse with police officers at stations or push party agendas through informal discussions with UNOs.
He emphasized that under the current interim government, any official (whether OC, DC, UNO, or SP) who does not work for the people will be dismissed.
He made these remarks on Wednesday afternoon while addressing an event organized by the Gono Odhikar Parishad Upazila Committee at a government secondary school field in Dashmina Upazila, Patuakhali.
In his speech, Nurul Haque said: “All government officials and staff must now work for the people. Keep in mind that no political party holds power now. Those who act against the interests of the people will be removed from government positions.”
He further commented: “Over the past 15 years, we have witnessed how government officials, employees, and the administration have become politicized and sycophantic. Today, we want to make it clear to all those working in Bangladesh’s administration: if you serve any political party’s interests, you will no longer be able to hold a position in the administration.”
The event was presided over by Liyar Hossain, president of the Dashmina Upazila Gono Odhikar Parishad.
Other speakers included Helena Begum, Central Committee’s assistant secretary for Relief and Disaster Management, Syed Nazrul Islam, district convenor of Gono Odhikar Parishad, and Md Shah Alam Sikder, district member secretary.
Leaders and activists from district, upazila, and union levels, including Upazila General Secretary Milon Mia and President of Jubo Odhikar Parishad Kazi Russel, were also present at the gathering.
