Students in Barisal demand president's resignation, ban on Chhatra League

A rally and procession were held in Barisal city at 12 noon on Tuesday under the banner of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Barisal, demanding a ban on the Bangladesh Chhatra League and the resignation of President Shahabuddin.

Before the procession, students staged a protest rally on Sadar Road in front of Ashini Kumar Hall in the city.

After the rally, students from various colleges gathered and marched with sticks through the main roads of the city.

Students from various educational institutions, including Government Brajo Mohun College, Syed Hatem Ali College, Polytechnic College, and Amrito Lal Dey College, participated in the rally and procession.

Syed Nizam Uddin, Zubair Hossain, Muhammad Sakil, Arifur Rahman, and Asifur Rahman, students from different educational institutions in the city, addressed the program.

They said that no more fascist government will be allowed to stay in this country.

"The president keeps making conflicting statements, but we don't want that," they said.

"What the president said suggests he is supporting the Hasina-led fascist government," they added.

"We demand the resignation of the president, who has spoken in support of the fascist Sheikh Hasina, who fled the country in fear of the student movement," they continued.

They reminded the president that the fascist government previously fled after facing the student movement on August 5.

"If the president does not resign immediately, the agitated students and the people will besiege the President's residence and force him to resign," they cautioned.

"If he does not resign, he will also have to flee due to the united movement of students and the people," they said.

The speakers further demanded the resignation of the president and called for a ban on the Chhatra League, calling it a terrorist organization that must be outlawed.

"Our brothers, including Abu Saeed and Mugdha, sacrificed their lives and became martyrs to bring down the dictatorship," they said.

However, they noted that the terrorist organization Chhatra League is still creating anarchy in different parts of the country and attacking common students.

Referring to the Chhatra League's attack on students at Chittagong University, they demanded the resignation of the president, who they called "a friend of fascism," and a ban on the terrorist Chhatra League, along with an end to the dictatorship’s supporters.

"This terrorist organization, BCL, should be banned immediately," the agitated students said.

They added: "The demands we are making are the demands of both the mass people and the students.
