GM Quader: Embarrassed by exclusion from state reform talks

Jatiya Party (JaPa) Chairman GM Quader expressed his disappointment at not being invited to participate in discussions on state reform led by Dr Muhammad Yunus, the head of the interim government. He said that this exclusion had caused embarrassment for the party.

He said that JaPa has a legacy, being an old party, with a history of contributing to the country's development and experience in governance.

Despite this, they have no objection to not being invited to discussions on state reform, but widespread criticism is directed at them.

He made these remarks while speaking to journalists on Saturday evening after visiting the grave of Jatiya Party's founder and former chairman HM Ershad at Polli Nibash in Rangpur.

GM Quader said: "We participated in elections during the Awami League's tenure, which is why we are being labelled as their allies. But everyone knows that we did not want to participate in their last election. I was, in a way, forced to take part in the elections. We faced attacks and legal cases. In many places, our party offices were vandalized. The security that was supposed to be provided to us perhaps could not be ensured by the government."

The JaPa Chairman further said: "When the government took charge, there was essentially no functioning governance. They assumed responsibility with a completely broken economy and the huge expectations of the people. It is not feasible to fix everything within two months. We are hopeful that they will succeed, so they need time. I can confidently say that the Jatiya Party will stand by the government and support them."

During the event, central Jatiya Party Presidium Member SM Yasir, Vice Chairman Azmal Hossain Lebu, Senior Vice President of the Metropolitan Jatiya Party Lokman Hossain, and Vice President Zahidul Islam, among others, were present.
