Chief Adviser Prof Yunus will initiate discussions with political parties on Saturday, starting with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
The talks are scheduled to take place at 2:30pm at the State Guest House Jamuna, with BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir leading the party's delegation.
BNP's media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan confirmed this information, although it remains unclear who else will join Mirza Fakhrul in the delegation.
Party sources indicate that the final list of senior leaders will be finalized later.
In addition to engaging with the BNP, the chief adviser will also hold dialogues with other political parties on the same day. Leaders from the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) and the Left Democratic Alliance have also received invitations for discussions. On Thursday morning, an adviser from the interim government informed CPB General Secretary Ruhin Hossain (Prince) about the scheduled meeting.
Ruhin Hossain said: “The interim government has invited us to a meeting at 4pm on Saturday.”
Dr Muhammad Yunus, the chief adviser of the interim government, announced during a press briefing on Wednesday evening that discussions with political parties will resume starting Saturday, with advisers also present.
Since the formation of the interim government on August 8, there have been two rounds of meetings between representatives of political parties and the advisory council.
This ongoing process will see a new round of discussions commence on Saturday, primarily focusing on the country’s major political parties.
The main agenda will include informing the parties about the progress of the six reform commissions. Additionally, discussions will cover the country’s law and order situation, and the advisers will seek input from the parties.
Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam expressed optimism that the reform commission will be established within two to three days.
In a speech to the nation on September 11, Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus announced the formation of six commissions aimed at reforming the electoral system, police, judiciary, public administration, constitution, and anti-corruption measures.
Badiul Alam Majumdar will lead the electoral reform commission, while Sohrab Raj Hossain will head the police reform commission.
Justice Shah Abu Naim Mominur Rahman will oversee the judiciary reform commission, Iftikharuzzaman will lead the anti-corruption reform commission, Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury will head the public administration reform commission, and Professor Ali Riaz will chair the constitution reform commission.
