South Korean Ambassador to Bangladesh, Park Young-sik, met with BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday to explore avenues for enhancing economic cooperation and investment in Bangladesh.
The hour-long meeting took place at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office, starting around 4pm on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Dr Moyeen emphasized that economic cooperation and investment between Bangladesh and South Korea were central to their discussions.
He said: “We discussed the current situation in Bangladesh, including the recent student-led mass movement and the changes that have taken place in the country.”
Dr Moyeen highlighted the challenges Bangladesh has faced over the past 17 years, noting that corruption has plagued the nation and adversely affected the business sector.
He said: “We addressed these issues alongside the prospects for strengthening Bangladesh’s economic relations with Korea.”
The BNP leader asserted that Korea’s involvement in Bangladesh is not politically motivated. “Rather, its primary aim is to enhance financial cooperation between the two nations,” he said.
He further said that the foundation of the Korea-Bangladesh relationship lies in the mutual benefits for the citizens of both countries.
“In line with this policy, we have maintained strong ties in the past. We believe that if the people of Bangladesh entrust the BNP with the responsibility of governing the country, we will prioritize the interests of both Bangladeshis and Koreans as our foremost consideration to advance development while fostering amicable relations between both sides,” he added.
