Awami League leader MA Momin Patwari, who was severely injured in an attack while paying homage to the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi 32 on August 15, has succumbed to his injuries.
The 52-year-old politician died at Green Life Hospital in the capital around 4am on Friday.
He was buried at the family graveyard in his village home of Noagaon Union under Ramganj Upazila of Lakshmipur.
Momin left behind his wife and a son. He was suffering from diabetes and heart disease, family sources said.
Momin was the deputy secretary of AL’s central sub-committee and former social welfare member of the Chhatra League’s central committee. He was also the education affairs secretary of Awami League’s Lakshmipur District unit and member of Awami League’s Ramganj Upazila unit.
Momin's nephew Muntakim Patwari said: "My uncle was attacked by some people while giving flowers with the party activists at Dhanmondi 32. We demand justice.”
His death was also reported on the verified Facebook page of the Awami League.
On August 14 and 15, dozens of Awami League leaders and activists were attacked and harassed as they went to the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi 32. Earlier, the interim government cancelled the holiday declared for August 15 to observe National Mourning Day.
