Tarique will lead Bangladesh as next PM, Farroque declares

Zainul Abdin Farroque, an advisor to BNP chief Khaleda Zia, has said BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman will become the next prime minister of Bangladesh, overcoming all conspiracies.

Speaking at a sit-in in front of the National Press Club on Tuesday, the former lawmaker emphasized the need to thwart conspiracies, including those of the Awami League, which he said would pave the way for Tarique’s return to the country, leading to his becoming prime minister.

Referring to the issue of fake freedom fighters, Farroque said those involved in the BNP’s politics had been removed from the list of freedom fighters during the Awami League's tenure.

He demanded that their status as freedom fighters be restored immediately and that they be re-included in the list.

Another advisor to the BNP chief, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, said diplomatic efforts should be made to bring Sheikh Hasina back to the country for trial.

Alal also said not only Sheikh Hasina but also leaders like Hasanul Haq Inu, Anwar Hossain Manju, Rashed Khan Menon and Dilip Barua should be prosecuted and brought to justice.

Addressing leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliates, he urged them to report any land grabbing or extortion to law enforcement agencies, the BNP central office or even the army if necessary.

Alal said the BNP was not willing to take any blame for these acts and urged action against those misusing the BNP’s name for such activities.

He also mentioned that organizational measures had already been taken against such people.
