During the quota reform movement, Zulfikar Ahmed Shakil, the organizational secretary of the Bangladesh Student Federation, Dhaka Metropolitan unit was injured by gunfire in Mirpur and has died on Wednesday.
He passed away at a private hospital in the capital while receiving treatment at around 3:30pm.
Anupam Roy Rupak, the office secretary of the Student Federation, confirmed this.
Rupak said that during a non-cooperation program of the student movement against discrimination in Mirpur 10, Shakil was injured by gunfire from Chhatra League and Jubo League members.
He had been hospitalized at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Agargaon, Dhaka, since Sunday.
Shakil was a second-year student in the Fine Arts department at the University of Development Alternative, a private university.
He was also a former student and involved in the activities of "Amader Pathshala," an educational institution for underprivileged children in Mirpur.
The central president of the organization, Mashiur Rahman Khan Richard, and the general secretary, Saikat Arif, expressed their condolences over Zulfikar Ahmed Shakil's death.
