Leaders of the Left Democratic Alliance, Anti-fascism Left Alliance and Bangladesh Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal have demanded that the Sheikh Hasina government immediately resign and hand over power to an interim government.
In their meeting on Sunday, there was strong outrage and concern expressed over the deaths of nearly 100 due to what they said were attacks carried out by police, the Chhatra League, Jubo League and Awami League on students and civilians across the country.
They said the longer the government delayed resigning, the more lives and property would be lost.
The leftist leaders said that the ruling party was pushing the country towards a civil war.
The meeting called for the government to accept the demands of students, stop the bloodshed immediately and resign, to save the country and the nation.
The leaders fully supported a non-cooperation movement by students and called on workers, farmers, women and people from all walks of life to take to the streets and join the movement until the government resigned.
The meeting was chaired by Bazlur Rashid Firoz, coordinator of the Left Democratic Alliance and general secretary of BaSaD.
