Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel has directed the Chhatra League to carry out organizational activities in the qawmi madrasas of the country.
He urged the progressive student organizations of the country to conduct organizational activities in the qawmi madrasas.
The education minister said this at the green, clean and smart campus construction and cleanup program organized by the Dhaka Metropolitan South Chhatra League on Thursday at the Government Madrasah-e-Alia premises in the capital's Bakshibazar.
He said: "Some political parties are already conducting their student organization activities in qawmi madrasas. A special cell should be formed for counselling so that they do not deviate from the country's constitution and the spirit of the liberation war in terms of political ideology.
“If we cannot create civic sense in the students then it will not happen properly when they reach the mature age. It is very good that the Chhatra League is conducting organizational activities in Alia Madrasas. Alia madrasa education is now quite at par with our mainstream education system,” he added.
The education minister said: “Vision of tolerance towards women, having a non-sectarian approach to other religions, creating our mindset for religious neutrality, Madrasas must do that.
“There is no conflict between the teachings of religious Islam and the creation of a non-sectarian, secular society. This is done by some preachers to corrupt the way of Islam by spreading misinformation,” he added.
He also said: “If student organizations in Qawmi Madrasas conduct their activities in an orderly and creative manner, it will likely yield positive results for everyone. However, if a large population is being indoctrinated against the government, the people, the state, society, and culture, it could have detrimental effects.”
Bangladesh Chhatra League Central Committee President Saddam Hossain, General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Inan, Dhaka Metropolitan South Chhatra League President Rajibul Islam (Bappi) and General Secretary Sajal Kundu were present at the event.
