On Sunday, BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakrul Islam Alamgir said BNP did not agree with all of Hefazat-e-Islami's policies, especially on its stance on women.
“Allegations exist that we are connected with Hefazat. We support Hefazat’s right to assemble or gather and we have also protested the mass killing by the government, but we do not agree with their views on women’s rights,” he said.
However, BNP Vice-Chairman Sadeque Hossain Khoka earlier said when BNP came to power, it would meet Hefazat's demands.
Addressing a meeting in Thakurgaon organised by Thakurgaon municipality unit, Fakhrul said the next parliamentary election in Bangladesh would be held under a caretaker government.
"The nation will not allow any alternative approach. The international community also does not support the attempt by the government to hold the next polls under a partisan government," he said.
He added that the UN secretary-general also advised the government to hold an acceptable election.
