The three suspected militants rounded up from Bogra town on Thursday has confessed to law enforcers that they are members of the outlawed Islamist outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
Bogra police super Mojammel Haque told the Dhaka Tribune that the trio admitted that they had earlier given wrong information to police about their identities.
Mojammel Haque also informed that the suspected militants told in custody that they had been reorganising under a new name which the said was “BEM.”
One of the detainees who had previously identified himself as Nahin, later said his actual name was Rafiqul Islam and hailed from Fulbari of Mymensingh, the police super said.
Police is now investigating into the authenticity of their identities.
Rafiqul Islam also told police that they had brought Babu, one of the detainees, from Govindaganj of Gaibandha without actually letting him know the purpose of his recruitment.
Babu has earlier claimed that he knew nothing about the alleged militant training that police suspected the detainees were taking at the makeshift militant den in Thanthania in Bogra town.
Rafiqul also told police that one Shibu, a resident of Bogra, had given them Tk20,000 and a bag. Shibu asked them not to open the bag and hand it over to the people gathered at the den for training, in case there was any police drive.
Rapid Action Battalion, who have conducted the Thursday night drive to round up the three, filed three cases on Friday night against the detainees and 15 others under the Arms.
Law enforcers are now looking for Dulal Mia, the owner of the house.
In the latest development, DB police on Saturday nabbed two more suspected militants from town’s Malgram area. They are-- Rezaul Karim and his son Yusuf.
Police said they conducted a drive on basis of information provided by another detained “militant” Rafiqul Islam.
DB team recovered a revolver, gun-powder, sharp weapons, jihadi books and crude bombs from their possessions.
