Jubo League regrets Supreme Court fiasco

Bangladesh Awami Jubo League has regretted the undesirable situation created during the just-concluded Supreme Court Bar Association election.

In a video message, Chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash on Friday said Jubo League is "traditionally a disciplined organization".

Since its inception in 1972, Jubo League has been a vital part of any movement on the streets. The sacrifice of Jubo League workers in any movement is unforgettable, he remembered.

He said the Jubo League is the “vanguard” organization of the Bangladesh Awami League.

There is no question of taking any position outside of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. There is no room for confusion in this matter, he asserted.

Parash said Jubo League lawyers gathered for a “fair, competitive, participatory and acceptable” election and voted in the Supreme Court Bar Association elections on March 6 and 7 in a festive atmosphere.

“But an undesirable situation has been created over the election on March 8 at the Supreme Court premises that Jubo League does not support.”

He, however, said if anyone from Jubo League is involved in the incident separately, organizational measures will be taken against them after an independent investigation.

“At the same time, we all regret the overall undesirable situation,” he said.

Earlier, police arrested five lawyers over a clash that took place over the announcement of the results of the Supreme Court Bar election.

This followed the clash between the lawyers over the vote counting.

A case has been filed over the incident naming several Jubo League leaders, among others.
