Shahjahan Omar: BNP needs to wait till Qayamat to come in power

Awami League Jhalakathi-1 constituency candidate barrister M Shahjahan Omar said that as there is no chance to change the government without elections and BNP has to wait till Qayamat to come in power.

“They (BNP) have made a mistake by taking the decision not to contest the polls. BNP will have to wait till Qayamat for this,” he said.

Shahjahan said: “It is not necessary to win all elections. BNP thinks when they can go into power will contest elections. For that the party has been waiting since 15 years, BNP will not be able to come to power till doomsday.”

Shahjahan Omar, a former BNP leader, said these things in the election road meeting organized by Upazila Awami League at Kathalia Pilot Girls School and College ground on Friday afternoon.

He also said that he participated in the liberation war at the age of 24 at the call of Bangabandhu.

“I am a pro-independence person, so I joined the pro-independence power Awami League. Now I am the fourth brother of Sheikh Hasina. If you have been hurt by the behaviour of any of my supporters during the BNP period, please forgive them,” said the Awami League candidate.

“I have never spoken bad words to any Awami League leader or activist in the past. We are the new Awami League, the people of the old Awami League have welcomed us,” he added.

On November 30, BNP expelled Barrister Shahjahan Omar for violating party discipline, after he submitted a nomination paper as an Awami League candidate for the Jhalakathi-1 constituency.

On November 29, Shahjahan was released on bail from Kashimpur Central Jail. He was arrested in a case filed for setting a bus on fire in Dhaka’s New Market area on November 4.
