BNP accuses police of raiding party chairperson's office late at night

A team of police carried out a raid and search at the office of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in Gulshan on Wednesday night, the party has said.

The raid took place around 10:40pm, according to the party's press wing.

A team comprising 15 policemen in plainclothes, led by the ADC of DMP Gulshan Zone, along with the officer-in-charge of Gulshan police station, entered the office and conducted searches, Shamsuddin Didar of the BNP’s press wing said in a press statement.

He said they stayed there for about 15 minutes, capturing rooms of the office on video.

During this time, the police officials reportedly said anyone coming to the office on Thursday morning would be arrested.

Additionally, police confiscated the flower wreath that had been brought there to be placed at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial on Thursday to mark Martyred Intellectuals Day.

Office staff were present during the raid.

The party also said a group from that office was scheduled to visit the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial in Mirpur on Thursday morning on the occasion of Martyred Intellectuals Day.
