Trinamool BNP Secretary General Taimur Alam Khandkar has said the prime minister will be responsible for the ensuing national crisis if the upcoming national parliamentary polls are not free, fair, impartial and participatory. He made this comment while talking to reporters after filing his nomination papers at the Dhaka divisional commissioner's office on Thursday morning.
Drawing the attention of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Trinamool BNP leader said that she has promised the nation that this election will be fair and participatory. “But we saw yesterday (Wednesday) that government party candidates violated the electoral code of conduct."
He also claimed that a candidate submitted his nomination form while brandishing his weapon. Those pictures were circulated in the media.
“I will send these pictures to the prime minister's office. I hope that the prime minister will be able to keep that promise,” said Taimur.
While responding to a query about whether he can defeat the Awami League candidate from Narayanganj-1, Taimur said: “I do not think any person is strong… the issue is the people."
Taimur submitted his nomination form along with another candidate, KM Abu Hanif Hriday, who wants to contest the election from Dhaka-5.
“Our candidates will submit their nomination forms today (Thursday) for the rest of the constituencies,” he added.
