Quader: Awami League's main target is young voters

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said that the youth of Bangladesh who became voters for the first time are the main target of the 12th national parliamentary election.

Speaking at a meeting held at Awami League president's Dhanmondi political office in the capital on Sunday afternoon, he said: “People have a huge interest about the polls. It cannot be excessive to say that how spontaneous the people are today about the elections.”

Besides, he said that after announcement of the schedule for the 12th national elections a wave of mass upsurge has been created across the country.

Regarding the arson attacks on trains and buses, he said that the current approach of the opposition party's politics in Bangladesh goes beyond constructive criticism; it is, in fact, nothing more than deliberate sabotage.

"This must be stopped. They set fire to train stopped at stations at night. The politics of sneak attacks must be resisted and prevented," the Awami League general secretary said.

Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud said the Awami League activists have to do three things before the elections.

"Firstly, the BNP's torching on vehicles in the name of politics should be publicized. Secondly, BNP's silence on Israel's attack should be pointed out. Thirdly, there is no alternative to electing boat for development and smart Bangladesh. These issues should be brought before the country's people," he said.

Sub-committee convener of Awami League election conducting committee Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury and its member secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap were, among others, present.
