Khulna Metropolitan and district Awami League strongly opposed the statements made by some BNP leaders, labelling them as false and misleading, regarding Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's speech at the grand rally at Khulna Circuit House ground.
Khulna Metropolitan Awami League President and city corporation Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque read a written statement at the press conference at Khulna Press Club on Wednesday saying that no government money was spent on the party’s rally.
The statement accused Khulna district BNP Member Secretary SM Monirul Islam Bappi of deliberately making false statements after witnessing the large public gathering at Khulna Circuit House ground and being surprised by Sheikh Hasina's impactful speech and popularity.
The press conference highlighted that not only the citizens of the country but the entire world is acknowledging the unprecedented development under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's leadership.
The allegation in BNP's statement regarding the closure of Khulna jute mill and Dada match factory was dismissed as entirely false. Instead, it was emphasized that Sheikh Hasina's government reopened jute mills closed by BNP.
Talukder Abdul Khaleque also said that BNP had made Mongla, the country's second sea port, immobile and abandoned. As a result, many workers associated with Mongla Port became jobless. Later, after the formation of the government under Sheikh Hasina, besides making Mongla port operational, she constructed EPZ and massive employment opportunities were created around the port and EPZ.
The district Awami League also condemned BNP’s remark on Awami League stealing votes, claiming that it was BNP who on February 15, 1996, declared themselves victorious in the election without voters and formed the government.
BNP leaders were warned from the press conference that the people of Khulna rejected their false and misleading statements with disgust, urging them to apologize and withdraw their statement or legal actions would be taken against them.
