DB chief: BNP attackers to be brought to book

The BNP rally on October 28 in the capital saw several police officers killed and vehicles set on fire. Those responsible will face consequences, Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Harun-or-Rashid said.

He made the comment while responding to a question from reporters at the Detective Branch (DB) office on Friday.

He said those involved with vandalism, murder of policemen, attacks on women workers, and setting fire to vehicles on October 28 will be arrested.

The DB chief said apart from October 28, cars were set on fire during the days of hartal and blockades.

Besides, setting fire to vehicles at Rajarbagh police hospital, attacking the chief justice's residence, and other destructive incidents in the name of the so-called movement are being investigated.

"We have got names of those who started the fire and violence. We will soon bring them to book," he added.

"We were searching for BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmood Chowdhury for a considerable amount of time," Harun said, adding they arrested him from a house where he was taking refuge.
