50 injured in AL-BNP clash in Rajshahi

At least 50 people were injured in a clash between local Awami League and BNP activists at Baghmara upazila, Rajshahi on Thursday.

Witnesses said the clash erupted as Awami League activists resisted some local BNP activists when they went to Khoirar beel at Taherpur municipality area for fishing around 9am.

A chase and counter-chase would ensue with both parties throwing brickbats at each other during the two-hour clash, leaving at least 50 people injured from both sides.

Eighteen of the injured were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, while eight others to Baghmara Upazila Health Complex.

Additional police were deployed in the area to avert further trouble, according to Officer-in-Charge of Baghmara police station Abdul Hamid.
