At least 20 people including district Awami League Office Secretary Al Raji Jewel were injured during a clash between Awami League and BNP leaders and activists in different places of the city and suburbs during the hartal in Bogra.
The picketers detonated around 10 cocktails during the clash, which also saw an ambulance being vandalized.
Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Feroza Parveen narrowly escaped harm as her car's glass was shattered by bricks.
Several police officers, including the Sadar police station officer-in-charge, were injured in the attack. Media workers were also targeted.
Witnesses reported BNP leaders and activists gathering at the party office on Nawabbari Road in the city, picketing and chanting anti-government slogans.
Simultaneously, Bogra district Awami League organized a peace and development rally at Satmatha in the city.
The conflict began around 9:30pm when both sides clashed on Galapatti road, leading to a chase, brick pelting, and the detonation of cocktails from various buildings.
Police intervened, using tear gas shells to bring the situation under control. Three rounds of chase and counter-chase occurred in the area.
Raihan Talukder Rana, media wing officer of the non-governmental organization TMSS, reported that picketers attacked and vandalized two vehicles belonging to TMSS Medical College and Rafatullah Community Hospital and Cancer Hospital in Gokul, Charmatha, and Barpur areas of Sadar, leaving six people, including children, injured.
Additionally, the picketers blocked the Dhaka-Rangpur highway through mosque announcements, indiscriminately attacking and vandalizing at least 17 vehicles. A juvenile picketer was injured by a police rubber bullet.
Bogra district BNP President Rezaul Karim Badsha and district Chhatra Dal General Secretary Noore Alam Siddiqui Regan claimed that police and Awami League activists attacked their peaceful program.
District Awami League Publicity and Publication Secretary Sultan Mahmud Khan Roni confirmed that at least eight people, including office secretary Jewel, were injured in the clash in from of the city BNP office in Galapatti. Five of the injured were admitted to Mohammad Ali Hospital.
Bogra Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) Snikdha Akhtar reported injuries among police personnel, with the exact number of tear gas shells and rubber bullets fired remaining unspecified.
