Leaders and activists of the ruling Awami League have started gathering in front of its central office on Bangabandhu Avenue on Sunday to join its peace and development rally, in response to BNP's hartal.
The rally has been organized by Dhaka South unit Awami League.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader is expected to join the rally as the chief guest.
Awami League leaders and activists took out a rally in front of the party's central office on Bangabandhu Avenue and surrounding areas.
Sheikh Bazlur Rahman, president of Dhaka Mahanar North Awami League, said: "BNP-Jamaat created anarchy on the streets on Saturday. We are on alert to ensure that they do not take to the streets today (Sunday).”
On Saturday, the Awami League called a peace rally across Bangladesh in response to BNP's hartal.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said: “We will be in the field. Sheikh Hasina's activists were always in the field, and they will be there tomorrow as well.”
“We want peace. We always want peace before and after elections,” he said.
