Police ask Awami League for alternative rally locations

The police have requested Awami League to provide names of two alternative locations for their rally planned at the south gate of Baitul Mukarram Mosque on October 28.

Awami League intends to host a peace and development rally at this location and had sought permission from the police.

In response, the police, represented by Paltan Model police station Officer-in-charge (OC) Md Salahuddin Mia, sent a letter asking for seven pieces of information, including details about the number of attendees, timing, coverage area, microphone placement, and the potential presence of members from other political parties.

Awami League Dhaka South unit Office Secretary Mohammad Riaz Uddin submitted the permission request on October 20. The police’s response letter specifically requested names of two alternative venues in case holding the rally at the south gate of Baitul Mukarram Mosque becomes a public safety concern.

The police emphasized the importance of public safety in their communication and urged a response from Awami League by Thursday.

BNP also intends to hold a general meeting in Dhaka on the same day, seeking permission for a rally in Naya Paltan.
