Anti-govt movement: BNP leaders, activists rally at Naya Paltan

Leaders and activists of 36 parties, the main opposition BNP in particular, gathered before its central office at Naya Paltan in Dhaka on Wednesday to press home their demand for the Awami League government's resignation, with the BNP expected to announce new programs in its movement later in the day.

The rally is being chaired by Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP Convener Abdus Salam, and the chief guest for the event is BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

Sources said the BNP would issue an ultimatum to the Awami League to resign.

Meanwhile, the attendees expressed their solidarity with the BNP's demands, reflecting the party's strong determination.

The construction of a stage began early in the morning, with leaders and activists gathering at the site. BNP members from various parts of Dhaka joined the event, holding banners and festoons in support of their cause.

The Awami League was also holding a peace rally in front of the party's central office on Bangabandhu Avenue, and the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) was on high alert at both places to prevent any untoward incident.

The police said extensive security measures had been taken and additional forces had been deployed, warning of legal action against illegal activities.

The BNP earlier held several events in the days leading up to the gathering, including rallies by Mohila Dal, Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal and Jubo Dal in Dhaka.
