The Election Commission (EC) is likely to give party registration to the Bangladesh Nationalist Front (BNF) and Bangladesh Sangskritik MuktiJote since they fulfil the conditions.
According to the EC’s latest investigation report on BNF, existence of the party, its activities and members have been found in 90 upazilas and 22 districts. The report on some upazilas is still underway, EC officials said.
EC officials also said Bangladesh Sangskritik Muktijote has also fulfilled the registration conditions. It will give final decision on these two parties at the next commission meeting.
Meanwhile, the EC is investigating the field-level activities of seven more political aspirants.
EC Secretary Mohammad Sadik said investigation on some the potential parties are on. On their completion, the EC would give registration to the parties that fulfil the conditions.
Recently, BNF submitted an application to the EC regarding fears the organisation might not be given registration.
The seven parties being investigated are Bangladesh People’s League, Bangladesh New Sangsad League, Bangladesh Gonoseba Andolon, Bangladesh Gono-Odhikar Dal, Bangladesh Liberal Democratic Party, Bangladesh Anjuman Al Islah and Bangladesh Gonoshakti Dal.
According to Section 90(B) of the Representation of the People Order, to gain EC registration a party must have a central committee, committees in at least 21 districts and 100 upazilas and at least 200 members in each of these committees.
