Quader: Negotiations already done with Peter Haas’ guardians

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Thursday said discussions with US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas’ guardians have already been held and now no one can foil the 12th parliamentary election.

“What will Peter Haas do now? Impose visa policy and sanctions? Negotiations have already been done with his guardians,” said Quader said during the Awami League's peace rally on Bangabandhu Avenue.

He insisted that no external intervention, especially through Peter Haas, would disrupt the electoral process or incite violence in Dhaka.

“Foreigners no longer care much about BNP leaders, which is why, they run to Peter Haas from morning to evening,” Quader said.

Quader praised Sheikh Hasina's significant national development efforts and reinforced her commitment to a fair election.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina pledged to ensure upcoming elections are conducted impartially and fairly,” he said.

He urged BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul to participate in the upcoming election, cautioning that attempts to disrupt the election will be addressed firmly.

"Prepare yourselves. The game is on. BNP may play unfairly, and we will respond by decisively showing them a red card. Be ready. We will not let them off this time," added Quader.

Discussions held with Peter Haas’ guardians: Obaidul Quader

Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader said discussions with Peter Haas’ guardians have been held and no one will be able to stop the upcoming election.

“What can Peter Haas do? Will he impose visa policy, or sanctions? We’ve had discussions with the guardians of Peter Haas. The discussion with high-ups’ has been done. Now that everything has been settled behind the scenes, what is the point of doing all this? We’ll not let you play any game of foiling the election and carry out vandalism in Dhaka by using Peter Haas,” he said while speaking at Awami League's peace rally in front of the party office in Bangabandhu Avenue on Thursday (12 October).

Quader said foreigners no longer care much about the BNP leaders and that’s why they run to Peter Haas every other day.

“Foreigners no longer come and care much (about BNP). That’s why they wake up and run to Peter Haas. They go for lunch and then for afternoon tea. I don’t know what dreams Mr Haas has shown to Fakhrul, but it there is no use dreaming for power. Fakhrul sahib, this is a far cry.”

Mentioning that Sheikh Hasina has overseen remarkable development in the nation, Quader said, "Sheikh Hasina is committed to conducting an impartial election. The upcoming elections will be conducted in a fair manner."

He urged the BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul to join the upcoming election, emphasising that Sheikh Hasina will ensure an unprecedented election this time.

He also emphasized their determination to prevent the BNP from manipulating elections any more.

Addressing Mirza Fakhrul, Quader remarked, "Dreaming of seizing power is futile. The path to power appears distant. BNP hindered its own journey toward political dominance."
