BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday alleged that the government has turned Bangladesh into a failed state by interfering with the judiciary.
"The judicial system of the country has completely collapsed," Fakhrul said at the youth march from Bogra to Rajshahi via Naogaon, demanding the fall of the government. The march of convoys ended at the Lalan Shah Muktamancha in Rajshahi city in the evening.
Addressing a rally as the chief guest, the former lawmaker said the government has once again indulged in the game of deception regarding the election. "The people of Bangladesh have said no to this government. It is the responsibility of the people of the country to protect the country and democracy. The question of whether there will be democracy in the country or not is now in front of everyone. The people of Bangladesh do not want to see this government in power."
Citing the example of a Rajshahi police officer’s comment on elections, the BNP leader said: "This is an example that there will not be fair elections under this government. Like 2018, this government wants to come to power by voting in the dark of night again. But this time it will not be allowed to happen."
He also claimed that BNP chief Khaleda Zia was detained unjustly, sentenced in a false case, and kept without treatment. Her son, Tarique Rahman, was sentenced in a false case.
Fakhrul demanded Khaleda Zia's speedy release and better treatment abroad. "The government will have to take all responsibility if something happens," he added.
BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury spoke as a special guest. Other speakers included BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Mizanur Rahman Minu, Organizing Secretary Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu, and Co-Organizing Secretary Shaheen Shawkat.
