17 more Chhatra League leaders expelled for mourning Sayedee's death in Pabna

Seventeen more Pabna Chhatra League leaders were expelled from the organization for mourning the death of convicted war criminal and Jamaat leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee on social media.

The district Chatra League expelled 28 party leaders and activists in total.

Pabna District Chhatra League President Mizanur Rahman Sabuj confirmed the decision through a press release on Sunday afternoon.

On Thursday, 11 leaders and activists were suspended through a notification. A request has been made to permanently expel the four leaders from the organization.

Suspended Faridpur Upazila Chhatra League organizing secretary Najibul Islam Nion said: "I have not made any posts about Sayedee. My opponent edited the picture and forwarded it to the district Chhatra League. Since August 10, I have been in a hospital in Bhangura as my father was unwell. I returned home with my father on Saturday."

He further said: "I am a victim of political conspiracy. Suspension before a proper investigation is never justified. I urge the president and general secretary of the district Chhatra League to conduct a fair inquiry into the matter. Alongside that, I seek the withdrawal of the suspension order."

Pabna District Chhatra League President Mizanur Rahman Sabuj said: “Sayedee was a convicted war criminal. He was involved in anti-national conspiracies in 1971. Some Chhatra Leauge leaders and activists posted on Facebook mourning his death, which is entirely inappropriate.”

“It is very sad that some Chhatra League workers expressed sympathy for a war criminal. Following the advice of the Central Chhatra League, 11 people were suspended first, and then 17 people were suspended. Also, there's a suggestion for permanent expulsion,” he further added.
