Home Minister blames BNP for arson, vows action

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Saturday said BNP and some political parties are organizing various programs to create anarchy in Bangladesh.

“BNP leaders are instigating their workers to carry out arson. There is no restriction from the government for them to hold their programs. However, our police and security forces will take action if there is any arson, criminal activity, and public inconvenience,” he said while visiting the injured police officers at Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital.

"Today (Saturday), BNP leaders and activists have set fire to six buses and police vehicles. Thirty-one police personnel were injured in the line of duty. They are now undergoing treatment at the hospital,” he added.

For the last few days, BNP has been announcing various programs to create anarchy to make the people of Bangladesh suffer, the home minister said.

“Yesterday (Friday) they had a major program and even before that, they had brought leaders and workers from all over the country to Dhaka,” he added.

About instigating the workers to carry out arson, the home minister said: "We just heard an audio clip from a Facebook video of BNP leader Nipun Roy. ‘You set fire, we've got to show it' she says in the video.”

“BNP leaders from all over are encouraging such work. We strongly condemn this,” he added.

Regarding BNP leader Amanullah Aman, the home minister said the police did not detain him. “He fell on the road. So far, 70 BNP leaders and activists have been detained.”

Meanwhile, the BNP has announced to hold peace rallies in all the metropolitan cities of the country on Monday.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the program at an emergency press conference at Dhaka's Gulshan on Saturday.
