Two victims of ‘BNP-Jamaat violence' on Friday narrated their awful memories in the Awami League peace rally.
The victims are- rape survivor Purnima Rani Sheel from Sirajganj and Sazzat Sheikh, Perulia union Jubo League president in Narail's Kalia.
Purnima Rani Sheel was gang-raped on October 8, 2001. She was 14-years-old.
After the 2001 parliamentary elections, Purnima was sexually assaulted in Purba Delua village of Ullapara upazila during post-election violence against Awami League supporters.
A case was registered over the incident, and after trial, 11 people were sentenced to life imprisonment and with a fine of Tk1,00,000.
Purnima while talking at Friday's rally, recalled the incident that happened to her 22 years ago.
She said: "Where is Tarique Rahman today? How do you talk about humanity? Aren't you ashamed?”
She also said that Tarique Rahman is a disease in Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, Sazzat Sheikh lost his brother Azad Sheikh on July 20 this year as he was subjected to a knife attack allegedly carried out by supporters of BNP-Jamaat while returning from a Jubo League rally in Khulna.
Sazzat repeatedly broke down in tears while talking about his brother. His emotional speech created a somber atmosphere at the rally ground.
He blamed BNP- Jamaat activists for his brother's murder.
“We don't want to see the BNP's politics of murder anymore. We don't want to lose any more of our brothers. We will bury this non-political force in the soil of Bangladesh in the next election, if God willing.”
The ruling Awami League organized a peace rally at the south gate of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque with thousands of leaders and activists in attendance.
