Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal General Secretary Shahidul Islam Babul on Wednesday alleged that BNP leaders and activists are being arrested, obstructed and attacked on their way to the party's rally at Naya Paltan.
Shahidul said 13 leaders of District Chhatra Dal, including General Secretary of Faridpur District Chhatra Dal Tanjimul Hasan Kayes, were detained on their way to attend the rally in Dhaka's Naya Paltan on Wednesday.
He said: "The police arrested them and took them to South Keraniganj police station.”
On the other hand, on the way from Madaripur to the rally in Dhaka, two buses carrying BNP leaders were taken to Padma Bridge South police station.
Quader Gani Chowdhury, a member of the BNP's media cell, told various media: "Due to the BNP's rally, the police have blocked the road from Savar's Boliarpur to Dhaka. Thousands of vehicles are stuck on the Dhaka-Aricha highway. People are entering Dhaka on foot from Savar.”
The public is suffering, he said.
Professor Dr Shamsul Alam Salim, convener of Jatiyatabadi Teachers' Forum of Jahangirnagar University, said that their bus was obstructed on the way to Dhaka.
Till the writing of this report around 12:30pm, they were staying in Boliarpur of Savar.
The BNP rally is set to begin at 2pm.
