Awami League activists' vehicles pass check posts without being searched

The police have initiated extensive checks at Aminbazar, the entrance of Savar, starting from Thursday night, with a focus on the rallies of two political parties in Dhaka.

Despite this, hundreds of vehicles carrying leaders and activists from organizations including Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League were allowed to pass through the Aminbazar check post without undergoing any search or investigation.

On Friday afternoon, leaders and activists from Savar, Ashulia, Dhamrai, and Manikganj set out for Dhaka to participate in the rally. Vehicles with banners of Awami League and its affiliates were not subjected to any scrutiny at the Aminbazar check post. These vehicles passed through without any hindrance or questioning.

A Jubo League leader from Ashulia stated that they left for Dhaka with over a hundred vehicles around noon and reached the gathering site in just 40 minutes. Their vehicles were not stopped or searched at any point during the journey.

Dhamrai Municipality Mayor and upazila Awami League General Secretary Golam Kabir Mollah shared a similar experience, mentioning that they joined the rally with a fleet of more than two hundred vehicles from Dhamrai. They encountered no obstacles and smoothly joined the rally in Dhaka.

Savar Model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Deepak Chandra Saha stated that no vehicles have been searched since noon.

However, it is essential to clarify that the car fleet of Awami League was not given special treatment or exemptions, he added.

Since Thursday night, the police have been stopping passenger buses for searches at the Aminbazar check post, primarily focusing on Awami League and BNP rallies in Dhaka.

Allegations have been made that pictures related to BNP rallies or related materials are being confiscated from mobile phones during these checks. These actions have led to traffic congestion in the Dhaka-bound lane of the road.

Additionally, over 50 individuals have been detained at the check post, and they were later transported to Savar Model police station in a prison van the following morning.
