Family members of Saju Palit asked for his murderers to be punished at a press conference at the Chittagong Press Club on Thursday,
Saju Palit was shot dead on June 24 during a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Jubo League over a railway tender at the Central Railway Building (CRB) area of the port city
Minoti Palit, mother of the deceased, made the demand at the conference at around 11:30am.
Saju’s sister Munni Das read out the written statement on behalf of Minoti.
Citing Ajit, Baitta, Shamim and Pintu, as directly involved with the murder, she claimed that police had not been able to take any action against them. Rather, she said, the police had arrested innocent people who had no connection to the incident.
Munni said Ajit took Saju to the spot from his residence on that day and shot him to death at the CRB Shat Rastar Moor.
One month after the incident, police had still not been able to arrest the perpetrators who were roaming around the city freely, Munni said.
Saju was an expatriate and not involved with Jubo Lague, she said.
Saju’s family lodged a case with the chief metropolitan magistrate court on July 14 accusing the four people mentioned above.
They demanded the prompt arrest of the murderers and sentences for them.
