The dawn-to-dusk hartal, called by Jamaat-e-Islami protesting the tribunal verdict that handed down capital punishment to the party’s Secretary General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujaheed is underway on Thursday.
Jamaat, in a statement signed by the party’s Acting Secretary General Rafiqul Islam Khan, called upon the shutdown rejecting the tribunal’s verdict against Mujaheed on Wednesday.
The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) 2 on Wednesday handed capital punishment to Mujaheed for committing crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.
Earlier, Jamaat observed hartals on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
