Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina never thinks that foreigners can put her party in power.
Quader made the remark after paying tribute to the late freedom fighter and actor Farooque at Central Shaheed Minar on Tuesday afternoon.
The road transport and bridges minister said: “The people of Bangladesh are the source of power. We believe in people's power. Sheikh Hasina herself said that we want to come to power through people's votes. So, there is no reason to believe she would be afraid of foreign or domestic conspirators.”
In response to BNP Leader Mirza Fakhrul's comments that the government is irked by the West in fear of losing power, Quader said: “He (Fakhrul) thinks that the West can put him and his party in power. That's why he is frequently communicating with them and assigning lobbyist to file complaint against the government.”
On the other hand, neither Awami League nor Sheikh Hasina have any lobbyists, he added.
Recalling the career of the late actor Faruk, Quader said: “We have a lot to learn from him.”
He said: “We were not in power for 21 years after the killing of Bangabandhu. Actor Faruk was a very popular hero but even at that time, he never derailed from his ideology of Awami League.”
