Khagrachhari district administration on Friday imposed Section 144 after Awami League backed Jatiya Sramik League and BNP's Swechchasebak Dal announced holding an iftar party at the same location in district bus terminal.
Khagrachhari Deputy Commissioner Md Sahiduzzaman said Section 144 will be effective from 8am to 10pm on Saturday in the bus terminal area of Khagrachhari.
“Legal action will be taken against people violating the order,” he added.
Khagrachhari BNP President Wadud Bhuiyan, in a press conference on Friday, alleged that the local administration and ruling party are trying to prevent the Swechchasebak Dal from organizing the iftar party.
He said the Chittagong and Comilla units of Swechchasebak Dal did not get any allotted space even after they sent applications to the district administration, government college and authorities of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC).
Wadud Bhuiyan claimed police started harassing the leaders of the BNP and like-minded parties since Thursday night.
He also stated that if they fail to hold the iftar party, the BNP will observe a road blockade on April 12 and 13.
He also requested the administration not to force the BNP to create any public suffering.
