Shamim Osman wants Parvez’s whereabouts

Former Awami League lawmaker AKM Shamim Osman Monday demanded to know the whereabouts of the missing ex-Jubo League leader, who was reportedly arrested from the capital as a suspect in the murder of student Tanvir Mohammad Towki.

Jahirul Islam Parvez, also known as Kangaroo, was allegedly arrested on Saturday by law enforcers in plain clothes in the Gulshan area. The expelled Jubo League publicity affairs secretary has been “missing” since then.

“I still hope Parvez will be found alive soon. If we do not find Parvez before Eid-ul-Fitr, some people will not be able to observe Eid,” Shamim said at a party meeting Monday evening at the Government Tolaram College.

According to a general diary filed with the Gulshan police station, Parvez’s wife Sohana Begum stated that she and her husband were returning to Narayanganj in a private car on July 6.

When they arrived Gulshan-2 at around 4pm, a white microbus stopped the car and about a dozen armed men in plain clothes, who identified themselves as detective branch police, took Parvez away.

Police and Rab sources, however, have denied arresting Parvez.

On March 6, 17-year-old Towki, the eldest son of cultural activist Rafiur Rabbi, went missing after leaving home in Narayanganj. Two days later, his body was found on the banks of the Shitalakkha River at Charargop.

Rabbi submitted a written complaint to the district police on March 18, accusing several persons of complicity in Towki’s murder, including Parvez, Shamim Osman, his son Ayan Osman, district Chhatra League vice-president Rajib Das, general secretary Mizanur Rahman and Saleh Rahman Shimanto.
