The main opposition BNP claimed the government was out to manipulate the results of Gazipur City Corporation polls.
MK Anwar, a standing committee member of the party, made the allegation while talking to journalists following a meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed in the capital on Saturday.
The BNP leader warned the government and the election commission that they bear the responsibility of the aftermath if they try to “change” the actual result.
The opposition party leader further claimed that many people were unable to cast their votes as members of the Rapid Action Battalion did not allow them to get inside the centres without national identity cards.
Anwar also claimed that a woman in Tongi Government School cast 36 fake votes alone.
He alleged that members of the detective branch of police picked up Shukur Ali, a polling agent of the BNP-backed candidate early Saturday for apparently no reason.
BNP leaders Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie and Barkatullah Bulu were also present at the meeting with CEC.
The BNP leader said they urged the CEC to announce the polls results as per the law.
The CEC assured the opposition delegation he would do everything according to regulations.
