Awami League leaders and activists took to the streets on Wednesday as the opposition BNP began its mass sit-in protest at its Naya Paltan headquarters.
In small groups, the leaders and activists of the Awami League of different wards areas were seen coming toward its central office on Bangabandhu Avenue.
Leaders of Mohila Awami League, Bangladesh Awami Jubo League and Swechchasebak League were among them as well.
Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League started a discussion and rally to mark Bangabandhu's Homecoming Day.
The program started in the morning and will continue into the afternoon in front of the party's central office.

Under the chairmanship of Dhaka South Awami League President Abu Ahmed Mannafi, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader and other central leaders are expected to be present in this program.
Meanwhile, to observe Bangabandhu's Homecoming Day, Dhaka Metropolitan North Jubo League leaders and activists gathered at Farmgate in the morning. They were scheduled to hold a rally at the Central Shaheed Minar at noon.
Besides, Chhatra League was holding another sit-in at Shahbagh from 11am, which will continue till 3pm.
They are holding the programs to protest against the “anti-state conspiracy, arson attempts and anti-constitutional activities” of BNP-Jamaat.
Moreover, Dhaka Metropolitan North Awami League will hold a peace rally in Dhaka's Mirpur area at 3pm as well.
Bangla TribuneAwami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader is scheduled to be the chief guest at the program.
Dhaka Metropolitan North Awami League President Sheikh Bazlur Rahman will preside over the rally.
The mass sit-in program, by the BNP and other like-minded opposition parties, alliances and organizations which is currently underway is to realize their 10-point demand, including holding the next polls under a neutral government.
It is the second program of the simultaneous movement after the mass procession by the 33 opposition parties on December 30.
After the sit-in, the opposition parties and alliances are likely to announce a fresh program to intensify the simultaneous movement.
