Following the failure in the Rangpur City Corporation election, the Awami League activists are finally happy after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced the dissolution of Rangpur District unit and Metropolitan Committee of Awami League on Sunday night and announced a two-member committee.
In this regard, on Monday afternoon, the convener of the newly formed metropolitan Awami League senior leader Dr Delwar Hossain and joint convener Abul Kashem took out a huge procession from the metropolitan Awami League office in Betpatti of the city and paid tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's mural in the city's DC intersection.
Thousands of leaders and workers of 33 wards and six metropolitan police stations of the city were present at that time.
After paying tribute, the newly elected convenor of metropolitan Awami League Dr Delwar Hossain said that the defeat of Awami League in the city elections was a shame for them and they will strengthen the party to bring back the lost honour.
Metropolitan Awami League Joint Convener Abul Kashem said that by reorganizing the metropolitan Awami League according to the instructions of the centre, they will work to bring back the lost tradition of the Awami League.
After the announcement of the new committee, on Sunday night, hundreds of leaders and activists started thronging the Awami League office in Betpatti until late at night to distribute sweets and welcome the new leaders.
The ruling party Awami League on Sunday dissolved the Rangpur District unit and Metropolitan Committee of Awami League.
The announcement cam after the dreadful defeat and performance in the recent Rangpur city election on December 27, where the ruling party nominated candidate ranked forth losing security money.
