BNP: Govt scared of 27-point outline

BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu said that BNP has given a 27-point outline to save the country, but the government and its allies are afraid of it.

“They (Awami League) don't like it. If the outline is established in the country, democracy will return to the country. People's freedom will come back. Corrupted, murderers and looters will be brought to justice. For this they (Awami League) are afraid of the outline,” said the BNP leader.

Shamsuzzaman Dudu came up with the remarks in a human chain organized by the Bangladesh Youth Forum in front of the National Press Club on Tuesday.

He said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was a freedom fighter. She was imprisoned for nine months during the liberation war. She is also a three-time Prime Minister and she never lost an election in her life. Constitutionally she secures bail. But she has not been granted bail yet. She has been imprisoned.

“We demand her release. We also demand the release of those who have been detained and arrested so far, including the secretary general of BNP,” said Dudu.

If Bangladesh is to be brought into competition with the developed world, human rights must be established with the aim of 1971's program - democracy, freedom, economic liberation, he said.

The BNP leader also said: “It is the month of December, in this month we cannot accept that Bangladesh should behave like Pakistan. Pakistanis have been defeated by democracy. It has been defeated by freedom. People's rights have been taken away and defeated; we don't want to go back to that place.”

BNP on Monday announced a 27-point comprehensive outline proposing massive reforms in the Constitution, judicial and administrative levels if it returns to power.

The outline says that a “Constitutional Reform Commission” will be set up to repeal or revise all unreasonable, controversial and undemocratic constitutional amendments and changes made by the ruling Awami League government.
