Jamaat postpones Dec 24 procession

Jamaat-e-Islami has decided not to bring out a pre-announced mass rally on December 24 as the ruling Awami League's national council is scheduled to be held that day.

The decision was revealed in a press release signed by Publicity Secretary Matiur Rahman Akand on Wednesday.

The new date will be announced soon, the press release said.

On Tuesday, BNP also called off its procession following Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader's request not to bring out any procession in Dhaka on December 24.

BNP along with Ganatantra Mancha and other leftist parties was supposed to simultaneously participate in the procession program.
